These days there are so many people that consider themselves to be foodies. If the criteria are eating out a couple times a week, checking out a lot of new places, and enjoying some amazing chef creations (along with some fantastic wine) then, I too, am a foodie.

I love data. I’m kind of a data geek. But sometimes I get a slightly irked at the methodology behind the numbers. For the past few months my irritation has been specifically centered on the flood of data coming out about tablet use related to online shopping.

Each year it seem that savvy marketers are helping to make holidays – even those that used to be considered somewhat minor (in comparison to Thanksgiving and Christmas) – a bigger occasion. Over the last several years consumers have spent significantly more on Halloween and Valentine’s Day.

There are three things everyone is talking about this week – Facebook’s massive IPO, Pinterest and the Super Bowl ads. I have them all for you. Facebook’s IPO filing gave people an in-depth look into its business. YouTube is giving ad fans a preview of its super ads. And Pinterest, well, it won an award. Happy Reading!!

For a little over six months there has been a lot of buzz around Pinterest, a social sharing site that allows people to create boards of things they like and “pin them”. I see a lot of boards from brides-to-be pinning things they might like to include in their wedding arrangements. But you can pin almost anything – pictures of your favorite sports players, shoes you’d like to buy, your favorite pillows. Basically, whatever you want. You can share them with friends and see popular items get “re-pinned.”
